Message from the Executive Director
Oki/Tansi
I was gifted last my traditional spiritual name in ceremony by Cree Elders Patrick and Patricia Diagneault ”White Hummingbird Woman”
In 2023, was the year that we as a global community were able to start socialization and quality of life with some normalcy. Exciting things has happened with Circle of Wisdom Elders Senior Society and Centre, we moved downstairs with access to kitchen and a bigger multi-purpose room.
The Circle hosts weekly programs that encourage a connection or reconnection to Indigenous culture, language and traditions. It’s also a place to connect with one another, to be heard, to be understood and to access community resources that may bring quality and comfort to their lives.
For our Elders and seniors, many were told they could not practice their traditions or speak their language, from the Residential School experience to the Sixties Scoop, thousands of Indigenous families have been stripped of their traditional practice and knowledge. We offer a diversity of in-person programs and excursions: from ribbon skirt making to workshops on wills and estates. We bring traditional and practical knowledge to hundreds of 300 Indigenous Elders and Seniors this year.
Message from the President
On behalf of the Circle of Wisdom Elders Seniors Society Board of Director’s, I would like to express my sincerest gratitude and appreciation to all the Elders, Seniors, Staff, and Sponsors of the Circle of Wisdom Elders Seniors Society for making the past year a rewarding and exciting time. This year presented us with amazing learning opportunities and exceptional growth for the Centre.
The Circle of Wisdom Elders Seniors Society has extended its support services to meet the needs of our Elders and Seniors. Our Executive Director, Doreen Williams, has shown unwavering dedication to our Elders, Seniors, Staff and Sponsors. Without her dedication the centre would not be possible.
We are immensely grateful for the generosity and support from our sponsors such as The City of Calgary, Unity Way, Calgary Foundation, and corporations like TD Bank of Canada, Ovintiv, and our many community partners who have dedicated themselves to providing the necessary supports for our Elders and Seniors
I remain truly thankful for all the support, kindness, and dedication to working together.
