Circle of Wisdom Indigenous Intake & Outreach Worker
Full Time Regular Position (1.0 FTE, 40 hours per week)
Position Summary
Circle of Wisdom Elders & Senior Society (CWESS) is an Indigenous agency that draws jointly from the strengths and guidance of Indigenous teachings and traditions and from evidence-based practices in human services to support vulnerable our Indigenous Elders & Seniors.
Our Team is guided by the wisdom of the elders from many nations, and we respect and honour these different influences. Our Team draws from their own strengths and interests, lived experiences, formal education, and traditional teachings to support the children, youth, and families of Circle of Wisdom Elders & Senior Communities. We seek someone who wants to work in a cultural team environment, contribute to healing and wellness, support land-based learning, and provide program development and delivery.

As part of an Indigenous Elder & Senior Support Worker primary responsibility is to provide short-term community support to /Elder’s seniors with community resources/advocate/. Effectively engaging Indigenous Elders & Seniors through the process of intake, supportive services and referrals, the Indigenous Elder & Senior Support Worker must use best practices, follow ethical guidelines, and respect the Indigenous Elders & Seniors uniqueness and right to self-determination while keeping in mind an individual’s right to be protected. This role also provides professional consultation and system navigation support to other professionals supporting elders and seniors within the Calgary Indigenous community.
Role & Responsibilities
- Performs intake which may include referrals to appropriate services or recommendation for intervention & Prevention.
- Works with a variety of agencies and systems to review referrals and identify risks for the elder.
- Once intake is complete, assesses the individual’s circumstances, general capabilities, risks, and support systems to gain a clear understanding of the individual’s situation. Collaborating with other professionals involved with the individual within the community.
- Care plan with the senior to assist well being.
- Provides information and/or referrals to appropriate community resources to the individual(s) and/or family members as required.
- Participates in community engagement, awareness, and capacity building particularly in elder social issues.
- Establishes and maintains strong working relationships with partners, and referral agencies.
- Retains required program statistics, outcome data and information necessary for annual year-end reports.
- A combination of post-secondary education and experience that has prepared them for this role.
- A willingness to embrace Indigenous culture as a pillar of practice and to add to their knowledge and understanding in this area.

Qualifications & Experience
- This position requires the Indigenous Intake & Outreach Worker to meet with our Indigenous Elders & Seniors.
- Candidate must undergo a vulnerable sector police check and additional police clearances.
- A driver’s license and reliable transportation is required.
- This is a position that requires a combination of outreach/system navigation skills.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working either with older adults.
- Well-developed sense of professional ethics and strong understanding of the importance of client confidentiality.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with individuals, families, and teams.
- Working knowledge of Calgary and Alberta resources for older adults.
- Post secondary in Humanities or Related field
